Adobe hasn’t confirmed when it will be launching its Stock Contributor Bonus scheme, but it may help Yakov Livshits to soothe some of the tensions between the company and creatives who want to be compensated for AI being trained on their work. It isn’t too dissimilar to what’s already being requested in copyright disputes between other AI providers and creatives who are angry about their work training AI models without consent. UBS analyst Karl Keirstead estimated in a report Thursday that Adobe will generate $400 million to $500 million in new revenue from the price increase in the company’s next fiscal year. He had expected Adobe to charge for a standalone Firefly subscription, though, not to have it folded into the overall Creative Cloud prices. „We … wonder if this says anything about Adobe’s confidence in a more direct Firefly monetization approach,“ he said in the report. Creative Cloud All Apps includes 1,000 monthly credits, while a single-app plan doles out 500 credits per cycle.
But partly to recoup the costs of Firefly development, prices for all Creative Cloud users are rising as of 1 November. The picture’s all a bit complicated, as is Adobe’s pricing structure, but it effectively translates to a $2 monthly increase for individual users on solo plans and $5 monthly for those on the All Apps plan. Adobe Firefly-powered features are now available Yakov Livshits in several Creative Cloud apps, including Generative Fill and Generative Expand in Photoshop, Generative Recolor in Illustrator and Text to Image and Text effects in Adobe Express. Adobe says it will continuously bring Firefly-powered features into more Creative Cloud apps and workflows for photography, imaging, illustration, design, video, 3D and beyond.

It’s essentially a digital “nutrition label” backed by the Content Authenticity Initiative. This label is designed to attach metadata, identify an image as AI-generated, and provide crucial information like the creation date, tools used, and edits made. Firefly’s generative AI capabilities are also available for video in Adobe’s video creation app Premiere Pro, which is used by broadcasters and video producers to turn raw footage into production ready video.

Artists who have licensed their images to Adobe Stock can not opt out of having their images included in training datasets, although Adobe is “continuing to explore the possibility”. It isn’t clear whether the tags are currently applied to images by any Adobe services, and the post also mentions that they will need “industry adoption” to be effective. Adobe plans to localise the service – that is, translate the Firefly UI – to 20 languages, with versions in French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese available now. Adobe is also working on making it possible to ‘personalise’ the AI model by training it on your own images. Both run inside web browsers, and generate JPEG or PNG images at resolutions up to 2,000 x 2,000px. He says the difference between Firefly and some of the other technologies on the market is that Firefly is designed to be commercially safe.

Adobe’s website has a complete breakdown of credits per paid account. While beta versions of Firefly have been free to use as often as someone wants without restriction, it requires using “Generative Credits” to create content now that Firefly is publicly available. The tokens, dubbed Generative Credits, enable customers to turn a text-based prompt into image and vector creations in Photoshop, Illustrator, Express, and the Firefly web application. While waiting for access, Adobe encourages users to join the Firefly discussion. They invite everyone to join the Firefly Discord channel, where they can interact with the team, engage with the community, and explore the fantastic creations generated by Firefly. Additionally, Adobe will host a Livestream event on Thursday, March 30, providing an opportunity to see the latest developments in Firefly, chat with the creators, ask questions, and get a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Adobe Firefly is a tool that helps you explore new possibilities in your design work by combining AI-generated elements with your own creativity and vision. When added, you can create unique posters, banners, social posts, and more with a simple text prompt. The beta, which people can use in a standalone website, will allow Adobe teams to learn from user feedback. Firefly-powered features will eventually be integrated into Adobe tools across Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Adobe Express. The computational demands of generative AI are significant, and to manage this, Adobe has introduced a credit-based system. This system allows users to access the fastest Firefly-powered workflows.
